RESPECT is working towards:
Information Research
- Ensuring on-going action-orientated research into the situation of MDWs.
- Researching into what services are available to MDWs suffering from abusive situations and using this information to campaign for better services.
- Sharing of information on legislation and employment in EU countries.
- Publicising information on MDWs to the wider public in the EU to facilitate support for RESPECT and its aims.
Facilitation
- Strengthening the development of and capacity –building of MDW self-organisations.
- Promoting co-operation on rights of MDWs between different groups and organisations.
- Trade Union recognition and representation for MDWs both in the workplace and in the community.
Campaign Lobby
- Basic rights for MDWs in all EU member states.
- An immigration status that reflects these rights and is independent of the employer.
- Recognition that domestic work in private households is proper work.
- Legally enforceable contracts setting out minimum terms, conditions and responsibilities for domestic work in private households.
- Access to full rights within all employment legislation, including enforcement of ILO decent work agenda.
- Endorsement of the Charter of Rights for Migrant Domestic Workers.
- Ratification of the UN Migrants Rights Convention.
